There isn’t much information on the internet about our Penciled Celebrities artist, popularly known as Ray Styles who died on Thursday, October 1.

However, Ghanaarticles.com, have been able to gather some information about Ray Styles which we are going to share with you.

He is called, Emmanuel Apraku AKA Ray Styles was a talented artist, who penciled all this creative arts and designs with all this heart and soul.

His artistic works were centered on the society and the social problems we face every day in our lives.

Biography

Born in 1989, the 31-year old was the youngest of four siblings. He was raised solely by his mother, after the death of his father, Mr. Paul Apraku when he was eight years old.

Spending his primary years at Accra New Town Experimental School, he attended Accra Academy between 2003 to 2006 where he earned the nickname Ray Styles.

He then proceeded to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Art, and graduated with a bachelor of art degree in communication design.

Being the son of a great craftsman, Ray attributes his natural flair to his late father who in his time created a lot of artworks for exhibition. This influenced him to start drawing at a very young age and eventually landing commissions.

But it was not until his days as a Communications Student at KNUST that he realized his true potential as an artist and subsequently defined his own unique style in the form of caricature, pencil art, traditional drawing, and graphic design.

He has also worked with great celebrities such as Josh Ostrovsky (know as thefatjewish), Michael Blackson, Chris Bosh, Tolu Lope (known as dontjealousme), DeStorm Power (known as destorm), KingBach, Mrcocoyam, D Black, Edem, and Malin Björk just to mention a few.

He is also an avid keyboardist and footballer and loves to listen to good music. Among other things, Ray Styles was known for actively supporting numerous social awareness campaigns through his art.

His Death

The talented artist was battling with liver cancer, which caused him to grow very lean. Soon pictures of Ray Styles flooded the media space, many people were in shock as they could not identify the penciled celebrities artist they knew before and the one they are seeing now.

Immediately, there was a need to solicit funds to help the young artist as his surgery requested an amount of £40,000.

A call well-wishers and fans including first lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo also contributed to support him.

After the good gesture from his fans, friends and family, he appeared in a short video to show his appreciation to all his sponsors.

In the video, Ray Styles was heard expressing his gratitude for the donations made so far as he cleared the air on the GoFundme account being used for the project.

He disclosed some people had expressed misgivings, describing the account created by one Owusu Bediako as fake.

However, he noted the latter was a member of the three-team Penciled Celebrity project who lives in the US.

Despite the difficult with which he spoke, he gave assurances of reuniting with fans soon to continue his God-given endeavor.

In the video sighted on Twitter, he revealed that he was running out of breath and needed to stop talking.

However, he managed to say again: “Thank you, thank you, thank you, God bless you. I love you.”

 

Thereafter, a WhatsApp chat message starting making rounds on social media where Ray Styles was having a conversation with his friend about his condition.

In the chat, Ray Styles told his friend that he was in India receiving treatment and that he was responding positively but unfortunately he couldn’t get well enough as he died on Thursday, October 1.

However, his death has finally been officially confirmed on his social media page.
